You might remember from your time in Lesotho that Friends of Lesotho has annually donated
considerable amounts to various community development projects and education scholarships
for Basotho Friends of Lesotho also serves as a connection point for people interested in
Lesotho to be a part of a larger fellowship with several goals: assisting in development/aid
for Basotho, connecting RPCVs with each other and invitees, initiating projects that make
US citizens aware of Lesotho. If you’ve always wondered how you could give a little more
than your annual dues, now is the chance to volunteer your time, special skills, and
enthusiasm.
The members of the Board of Directors of Friends of Lesotho are elected based on their
ability and willingness to contribute to the achievement of the organization’s goals and
objectives. You do not have to be a board member to serve on a committee or task force.
The Board meets bi-monthly via conference calls and completes committee assignments between
meetings. There are also committees and task forces that help carry out the Board work.
These committees include Donation Distribution, Membership, Fundraising and Board
Nominations & Development. Specific duties of Board members include: 1) be a FOL member
in good standing 2) understand the goals, policies, and programs of FOL 3) attend Board
meetings and participate in the policy-making decisions of the Board 4) participate
actively on one or more of the Board’s committees and/or task forces suited to a member’s
interests and skills 5) foster the organization’s purpose in other spheres of influence.
We’re looking for people with a few hours a month to dedicate to a specific position.
There are the standard Board Officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary
in addition to committee participation.
There is also a need for members with specific skills sets; legal expertise,
newsletter/communication skills, financial and fundraising skills and computer skills.
We need Board members at large to help do the committee work and participate in the
discussions and decision-making e.g., deciding on which projects to fund each year.
Because you do not have to be an elected Board member to serve on a committee, we are also
looking for “lay” volunteers to assist with committee work. If you want to learn more about
the current Board, the committees, the bylaws, or generally more about FOL, check out the
Board Information page. Also, for a summary of the expected level of commitment see the
Board and Committee description of work.
We are soliciting applications and nominations for the Board throughout the year, using
email messages, phone calls and our newsletter. Applicants and nominees will be contacted
in August each year for follow up and the Nominations Committee will have prepared a slate
of candidates by the beginning of September. The slate of candidates will apear 21 days
prior to the October Annual Meeting. Successful candidates will be contacted by the Board
prior to the next regular meeting in November.
If you're interested in application or nomination, please complete the
Nominating Form and email it to the address shown within the form.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the committee members.
